Kansas Department of Commerce honors northwest Kansas businesses
at Business Appreciation Month regional event in Russell

Thirty-seven northwest Kansas businesses were recognized on June 2, 2008 for contributions to their communities and the economy at the Kansas Department of Commerce’s annual Kansas Business Appreciation Month (BAM) Northwest Regional Awards ceremony in Russell.  Among the business honored were three from Rooks County--Dessin Fournir Companies of Plainville; The Stockton Sentinel and Webster's Supermarket of Stockton; and Little Rooster Day Care of Palco. Dessin Fournir was an Excellence Award Winner in the Manufacturing/Distribution Category.  Webster's Supermarket was the Business Achievement Award Winner in the Retail Category.

The event was the first of six regional BAM events to be held throughout June. At each ceremony, one company in each of three categories (Manufacturing/Distribution, Service and Retail) is awarded a Business Excellence Award, with remaining companies given a Business Achievement Award or a Merit Award. The month concludes with the Kansas Cavalry Encampment in Emporia on June 17, where one Kansas company will receive the Governor’s Award of Excellence, the top award given to a business by the State.

“We are thrilled to visit Russell and recognize the northwest Kansas businesses that make this state strong,” said Commerce Secretary David Kerr. “By designating June as Business Appreciation Month, we foster a year-long appreciation for the crucial role our Kansas businesses play in the state’s prosperity and quality of life.”
