Assisted Living facility under development
from the Plainville Times

After months of intense study and evaluation, the Board of Rooks County Senior Services has authorized the employment of an architect for the design of a new 12-unit Assisted Living Unit on the campus of the Rooks County Nursing Facility.  "If we are going to serve the elders of our county in the future, we need to provide them with those services they want, and Assisted Living is a service people want," said Board Chair Rusty Hrabe.

The nearly 11,000 square feet building will provide 12 private rooms of around 500 square feet including closet and private bath.  Common spaces will consist of a dining room, audio/TV room, living area, country kitchen and resident laundry.  "We have seen many residents of our area relocate to Hays or Salina because we have not offered this service.  Now with our new Assisted Living, people can remain in our community and continue to be a part of our greater community," commented Administrator Fontella Fant.

The project is to break ground in July 2007 with a projected opening in the summer of 2008.  As part of the new building, the project will contain a new kitchen and laundry to serve the existing nursing facility.  Future plans for the campus include replacing the current nursing facility which was built over 40 years ago.

Rooks County Senior Services is a non-profit corporation formed in 2006 at the request of the Rooks County Commission.  A nine-member board governs the organization with Fontella Fant as the Administrator.
