Six Rooks County businesses were honored at the annual Kansas Business Appreciation Awards held on June 14, 2005 in Colby, Kansas. The awards are held annually during Business Appreciation Month to recognize businesses that contribute to local economies. This years recipients from Rooks County were:

Roy Construction is a locally owned construction company that specializes in concrete
construction that began in 1976. The company has expanded by over 3,900 square feet and $200,000 of capital investment in the past decade. Roy Construction contributes to the school’s yearbook, after prom, FFA, and the printing of school calendars. The company is also involved in the Rooks County Free Fair, Stockton Recreation Commission activities, Relay for Life, Pheasants Forever banquet, and Swing into Summer Festival.Carmicheal True Value

The company has expanded by 2,000 square feet, $20,000 of capital investment, and one additional employee in the past decade. Carmicheal True Value supports a variety of educational activities including yearbooks, after prom parties, FFA, FCCLA, and booster clubs. The company, which was established in 1944, also contributes to a number of community events including the county fair, 4-H exhibits, Paradise Creek Festival and Rodeo, and Relay for Life.

The Rooks County Health Center is a critical access hospital providing medical and emergency care, rehabilitation, diagnostics, and obstetrical services. The center is expecting to expand its services in the future as they work toward building a new facility in the next 18 months. Rooks County Health Center provides tours and career planning activities for local schools. The center also supports local events including the Paradise Creek Festival, Cardiac Arrest, Relay for Life, and the Red Cross blood drive.
