New CHDO homes add to housing stock in Plainville and Stockton
10/2/2008

Four new homes in Plainville have been completed and are now occupied as a result of the cooperative project between Northwest Kansas Housing in Hill City, Solomon Valley Homes LP, Rooks County Economic Development, and the state of Kansas.  One home is now completed in Stockton with two additional homes to be completed within the next couple of months.

Northwest Kansas Housing is a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) formed under the umbrella of the Northwest Kansas Planning and Development Commission in Hill City.  Northwest Kansas Housing has completed previous projects in Norton, Ellis, Russell, and Smith Center just to name a few.

The homes have handicap features, with one home in each community being completely handicapped accessible and will have energy saving features throughout.  Five of the homes have basements, with the two handicapped accessible homes being built on slab with a safe room being paid for by each city.  Each home will be single-family, with three-bedrooms and one bathroom upstairs, and plumbing for a basement bathroom. Occupancy of the homes will be income-based, with no limits after the initial approval.

For more information on the homes, contact Loyce Schamberger at 785-421-2151, or Roger Hrabe at 785-425-6881.
