Coffeyville Resources presented Regional Business Excellence Award

Coffeyville Resources of Plainville was one of 28 Regional Business Excellence Award Winners as determined by the Kansas Department of Commerce during Business Appreciation Month (BAM). The award was presented to Keith Becker, Manager Raw Material, at the Plainville Chamber of Commerce meeting on June 8. Dan Steffen, local Field Representative for the Kansas Department of Commerce made the presentation

Business Appreciation Month is just one small way to say "Thank You" for everything that small businesses do for our Kansas communities. It is a well-deserved thanks for not only providing jobs and investment in our Kansas communities, but also for the on-going training and other educational opportunities provided to employees. It is also a thank you for small business involvement in the communities through civic organizations, volunteerism, and service.

This year, the Kansas Department of Commerce received 144 nominations for BAM awards, in the categories of: Manufacturing/Distribution, Retail, Service, and Hospital/Non-Profit Organizations. From those nominations, a panel of economic development professionals, business leaders and Chamber of Commerce officials, from across the State of Kansas, narrowed the field to 28 Regional Business Excellence Award Winners. All winners are being recognized in their respective region of the state during the month of June.

Coffeyville Resources became a part of the Plainville Community a little over 6 years ago, and expanded their employment by 13 new positions in 2007-2008. In the past 6 years, their total investment in Kansas has been over $3.2 million. They continue to provide employee training in an on-going basis in the areas of safety, computer applications, CPR/First Aid, and personal money management.

Coffeyville Resources and its employees are involved locally in many organizations and help sponsor numerous local and area events. They were also involved in helping with the aftermath of the Greensburg tornado in 2007, providing equipment, and employee personal time, to help remove debris from the devastated community.

"Coffeyville Resources is just one example of the many small businesses in Rooks County that are such an important part of the local economy," said Roger Hrabe, Director of Rooks County Economic Development. "They not only provide important jobs, but they but they support so many of the activities that keep our communities attractive and vibrant."

Nearly 50 Rooks County businesses have been recognized over the last ten years by the KDOC during Business Appreciation Month. Coffeyville Resources is the third to receive the Regional award.
