City of Damar finishes street project

The City of Damar has just completed a street project that resurfaced 12 blocks of the city streets.  The improvements to the town are very noticeable and should provide many years of useful service.  Some curb and gutter improvements were also made.

The City received a $300,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) through the Kansas Department of Commerce that was matched with $124,184 of local funds to complete the project.

The City has made consistent progress in recent years by updating water facilities and housing.  The City also is a member of the Solomon Valley Highway 24 Heritage Alliance that has sought to increase tourism traffic along Highway 24.  Even though Damar is 5 miles south of Highway 24, the location of St. Joseph's Church convinced Alliance developers that the attraction should be included in the auto tour.
