Farm Implement & Supply expanding to Highway 183 location

After serving farmers and ranchers from the same location on W. Mill Street since 1947, Farm Implement & Supply Company of Plainville is expanding to a more visible location on S. Highway 183 (S. Washington).   The new location will take advantage of the continuously increasing traffic on U.S. 183.

The new location is on the site of what used to be American Golf Cars.   The building is being expanded and will not only have increased space for retail, but will also have more shop space available for equipment repair.   According to owner Todd Gilliland, in times of down economy more farmers elect to repair equipment rather than purchase new.   More space is then needed for mechanics.

Farm Implement was incorporated in 1947, with Harold (Ike) Gilliland hired as the manager.  He later became the sole owner in 1954.   Ike's two sons, Barry and Ron, managed the store for many years, and now it is run primarily by Ron's son Todd.

The equipment line throughout those years has changed and evolved.  Familiar lines of equipment included Massey-Harris, Massey-Ferguson, Gleaner-Baldwin, Oliver, Minneapolis-Moline, White Motor, and New Holland.

The building is still under construction, and no opening date has been set.
