Stockton and Damar receive grants
The Stockton and Damar fire departments have been notified that they will be receiving grants through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, which is administered by the U.S., Department of Homeland Security.
The Stockton Fire Department has received a 2005 grant in the amount of $78,945.00 to purchase much-needed equipment. The department will use the grant to purchase ten self-contained breathing apparatus, a Thermal Imaging Camera, and a Compressor Cascade/Fill Station.
The Damar Fire Department received a $91,200 grant through the same federal program to purchase a new vehicle for their department. The small rural fire departments, such as Damar, receive priority funding through this program because of their inability to fund such purchases on their own.
The City of Stockton was also notified recently that they have received an Urgent Need Community Development Block Grant for $117,559. The majority of this grant will provide funding for the construction of three water well houses located west of town to replace those damaged in the June 9, 2005 tornado. The remainder of the funds will help the City pay for other repairs to the municipal water system for additional damage caused by the tornado.
Northwest Kansas Planning and Development and Congressman Jerry Moran's office assisted Stockton in obtaining this urgent need funding.
