KDOT awards road project to Plainville

The Kansas Department of Transportation announced on January 12, 2007 that Plainville was awarded an Economic Development grant contributing $398,000 towards the cost of reconstructing a one mile stretch of county roads near the proposed new Rooks County Health Center.  The county will contribute the remaining cost of $180,000.  The project was one of 19 projects selected from 63 applications.

The project will include the section of County Road W beginning at the intersection of U.S. 183 Highway, east 0.5 miles to the intersection of County Road 18, then south 0.5 miles.

This section of roadway was recently milled and improved to provide a good base from which to begin the asphalt overlay.  A 6" overlay has been proposed to replace the chip and seal surface that existed previously.

The Rooks County Economic Development Office completed the grant application with the help of the county Road and Bridge Department.
