Comprehensive Grant underway in Palco
The City of Palco is now beginning to see progress in the first stages of the implementation of the Comprehensive Development Grant that will eventually bring nearly $2 million dollars worth of improvements to the city infrastructure.
The
Kansas Department of Commerce awarded the Comprehensive Development grant to
Palco earlier this year after a two year application process. The $966,584
grant is for sewer improvements, streets and sidewalks downtown, rehabilitation
to 11 homes, and demolition of eight structures.
Grants and loans were also acquired from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT). The KDHE grant and loan will help fund the construction of a new lagoon system to treat the city's wastewater. The KDOT money will be used to resurface much of the south end of Main Street with cement to help eliminate deterioration from increased truck traffic.
The City of Palco was one of only a few cities that were awarded
CD grants in 2003. Others cities in the area include Downs and Great Bend.
“We applaud the communities of Downs and Palco for their commitment in growing
their cities,” said Lt. Governor/KDOC Secretary John Moore. “We are pleased
to support their efforts and will work with them to ensure the success of these
projects.”
