Super Bowl for Plainville firm
from the Stockton Sentinel   2/5/2009

This week Palmer Hargrave, a Plainville lighting firm, began work on 80 handcrafted sconces for the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of Super Bowl XLV in 2011.  Palmer Hargrave's Sentinel Sconce was selected by the Dallas design firm, Wilson & Associates, for inclusion in the Owner's Club and Legend's Club suites of the new stadium.

"According to our representative in Dallas, the stadium plans show a pair of our sconces placed on either side of the mirrors in the private restrooms of 40 club suites," said Sharon Keller, a Palmer Hargrave representative.

Each sconce will be built by hand in Palmer Hargrave's workshop, which is a renovated meat locker in downtown Plainville.   The solid brass sconce will be forged, assembled, then finished in polished nickel and topped with an ivory pongee silk shade.  It is estimated that the order will take 10-12 weeks to complete.

The sconce is part of the Encore Collection from Palmer Hargrave, which is designed by Chuck Comeau, a Plainville native.   Comeau is the principal designer and co-founder of the Dessin Fournir Companies, six luxury goods firms including Palmer Hargrave which design and manufacture furniture, fabric, lighting and wallpaper for the high-end residential and contract markets.   The products are sold exclusively to interior design professionals through 16 representative showrooms across the United States, Canada and Russia.

Although you cannot see the sconce in Plainville, you can find evidence of Comeau's designs in downtown Plainville and Hays, having renovated nearly 30 buildings between the two cities.  In Plainville he renovated five downtown buildings for the corporate offices and warehouses of the Dessin Fournir Companies.  In Hays, Comeau is the principal of Liberty Group, the primary developer of downtown's Chestnut Street District.
