About RCED

Recreation in Rooks County

Webster Reservoir and State Park is located 7 miles west of Stockton on Highway 24 or 10 miles north of Zurich on Highway 258 from K-18.  The 3,780 acre lake has campgrounds, picnic areas, swimming, volleyball courts, shower houses, shelters, hiking trails, boat ramps, fish cleaning station, electric hookups, and much more.  To find out more about Webster Lake, visit the website at: http://www.kdwp.state.ks.us/news/state_parks/locations/webster

Rooks County State Lake is located 3 miles south and 3 miles west of Stockton and provides excellent fishing opportunities.  A shelter house is also available for picnics.

Plainville Township Lake is located 1 mile south and 1 mile west of Plainville.  During normal years, the lake has plenty of water and provides an excellent location for fishing and picnics.  Each year the lake is the site of an annual July 4 fireworks show.

Cedar Links Golf Course is located 5 miles north of Plainville.  The nine-hole grass greens course has plenty of water (in normal years) and, of course, lots of cedar trees to challenge golfers of all ages.  Cedar Links is a semi-private club, but visitors are welcome to play.  Carts are available.

The course includes a supper club.  Hours of the restaurant vary, so it is a good idea to call for reservations or times.  Call 785-434-4766.

Palco Golf Course is located 2 miles east of Palco on Highway K-18.  It is a nine-hole sand greens course laid out in rolling hills and valleys.  The course is open to all golfers for a small fee.

Hunting Rooks County is well known as a haven for hunters.  An abundance of pheasant, quail, turkey, deer, dove, ducks, and geese make the area one of the most popular hunting areas in the United States during the fall and winter months.

City Parks are located in each of the county's towns. Many of the parks have shelter houses, playground equipment, and picnic tables.
