January

Mid-Continent League Basketball Tournament is held annually in the middle of January at local sites and at Gross Memorial Coliseum on the Fort Hays State University campus in Hays. In 2009, the event will be held from January 10 through 17.

February

Pancake Supper held in Woodston around the second weekend.

April

Palco Art Club Annual Exhibit at the Palco Township Hall, is held the last weekend of April.
Sigma Phi ESA Easter Egg Hunt
is held in Stockton on Easter Saturday.
VFW Easter Egg Hunt is held in Plainville on Easter Saturday.

May

Rooks County Health Center Annual Health Fair is held in May to encourage a health citizenry in Rooks County and the surrounding area.  In 2008, the event will be held Saturday, May 3 at the Plainville Grade School Practice Gym.  The event begins at 8:00 a.m. and lasts until 1:00 p.m.  Blood draws, screenings, activities for the kids, food, and organizational booths are all part of the event.  Contact the Rooks County Health Center at 785-434-4553 for more information.

Native Threads Quilt exhibit (a national exhibit in partnership with Kansas Arts Commission, and the National Endowment for the Arts) will be on display in the Carnegie Room at the Stockton Public Library from May 15, 2008 to June 20, 2008.

Home in the Heartland Festival in Stockton features tours, city-wide garage sales, dedications, and more.  In 2008, the event will be held May 24.

June

Native Threads Quilt exhibit (a national exhibit in partnership with Kansas Arts Commission, and the National Endowment for the Arts) will be on display in the Carnegie Room at the Stockton Public Library from May 15, 2008 to June 20, 2008.

Palco Art Club Annual Workshop and Exhibit  is held at the Stockton City Hall the first week of June.

Paradise Creek Festival held in Plainville during the first week of June includes a professional rodeo, games, craft show, stage shows, car show and much more. In 2008, the event will be held June 13, 14, & 15.  Check the Plainville Chamber of Commerce website at www.plainvilleks.com for updates on the event.

 

July

On the second Saturday of July, Stockton will host their Summer Festival that will include games, entertainment, barbeque, and other special events downtown and in the park.  For more information, contact the Stockton Chamber of Commerce at 785-425-6372.

Damar City Celebration and Car Show is an annual event held during the third weekend of July after harvest.  In 2008, the event will be held on July 19. Events include live entertainment, car show, kids games, barbecue, and a street dance.  For car show information contact Marvin Roberts at 785-421-7084.

Codell July 4 Celebration Codell holds an annual July 4 celebration that includes a parade, supper, and special music. 

After Harvest Bash is held in Palco the last weekend in July.

August

Rooks County Free Fair is held the second week of August in Stockton and is one of the largest and oldest free fairs in Kansas.  The "Fair of Champions" has been held annually since 1879.  The Fair features agricultural, commercial, and open class exhibits, nightly entertainment that features musical artists, car and motorcycle races, demolition derby, and a carnival on the midway. Visit www.rookscountyfreefair.com for details.  Note - The 2008 Fair will be held August 11-16.

Plainville Coca-Cola Days is held around the beginning of school each August.  The promotion encourages local purchases by offering free two-liter bottles of Coke products from each of the participating merchants. In 2008, the event will be held Friday, August 22 thru Saturday, August 23.

September

Solomon Valley Antique Machinery, Threshing Bee is held in Stockton each year and includes displays and demonstrations. In 2008, the event will be held September 13.  For more information, contact Cheryl Calvin  at 785-425-6090.

October

St. Joseph's Annual Bazaar is held in Damar the second weekend of October.  The event is held to benefit renovations of the St. Joseph's church.  It includes a meal, games, and entertainment. For more information go to the Damar website on the "Community Info" page.

Palco Halloween Carnival and Soup Supper brings together the community for costume judging, carnival games, and a soup supper. Not an annual event.  Check ahead for details.

November

Stockton Olde Tyme Christmas is held the day after Thanksgiving and includes lighting of the town main street, special merchant promotions, and the arrival of Santa Claus.

Woodston Soup Supper and Auction held in early November is followed later in November with an Annual Dinner.

Palco PRIDE Annual Breakfast is held in conjunction with the opening day of pheasant season the second weekend of November.

Home for the Holidays is held in Plainville before Christmas to help celebrate the coming of Christmas.  Events include a visit with Santa, drawings & giveaways, soup supper, and horse-drawn carriage rides.  In 2008, the event will be held on November 22.

 

 

December

Damar Hometown Christmas, held the second weekend of December, includes hayride caroling, food and refreshments, hot chocolate, and a bonfire.

Santa Christmas is held in Palco on the second weekend of December and includes a lighting ceremony.
