Voters from Rooks County approved the sales tax question on the November 4, 2014 ballot to build a new Rooks County jail. The uncanvassed vote total was 1,101 in favor and 863 opposed.
The new jail will be built near the Division of Water Resources building in south Stockton and will house the Sheriff’s Office as well as the new jail. Both are currently located on the fourth floor of the county courthouse. Space, accessibility, safety, and the threat of lawsuits all played a significant role in the need for the new facility.
